Kimberley Cruises

If you think Australian bucket list then The Kimberley has to be up there at the top. Three times larger than England and with a population of less than 40,000, the Kimberley region – spread over Australia's entire north-western corner – is one of the world's last wilderness frontiers.

The majority of the coastline is inaccessible by road making it the perfect cruise destination. And we’re not talking mega cruise ships here, this is the prime destination for boutique cruise ships, seldom with more than 200 passengers on board offering accessibility to beaches and waterfalls and zodiac expeditions to rarely seen wildlife and aboriginal art.

The Kimberley season runs from May to October, and typically cruises operate between Darwin and Broome or vice versa with some variations.

The inability to travel overseas has prompted several cruise operators to offer a range of cruises in 2022 and the main operators have announced additional capacity.  But even with the extra capacity, many dates are already full so if you’re keen to fit in a trip next year you’d better book soon!

And while you’re there, why not add on a trip to inland Kimberley or perhaps Kakadu and experience the ultimate in the Top End  – then you really will tick off that Bucket List!

In this article, we review the cruise lines offering a Kimberley experience and identify the unique elements of each so you can pick the experience that’s right for you. We have grouped them according to experience e.g. luxury versus expedition and quoted their lead-in price for the most popular 10-night cruise. We’ve also included our ‘Helicopter Check’ as one of the key differentiators!

Other itinerary lengths are available depending on what cruise experience you prefer, ask one of our Travel Stylists for details.
